My own journey to the bench began in segregated schools in Virginia and continued through my legal education at Howard University and The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law. I later served in the Criminal Division of the Florida Attorney General’s Office, on the Florida Second District Court of Appeal, and ultimately on the Florida Supreme Court, where I had the honor of becoming the first African American woman to serve as Chief Justice.
